In 2010, Ho Hsiao-Mei founded MeimageDance, and has since been acclaimed as “a master of creating surreal imagination”. Her works are known for their diversity, physical exploration, and richly vibrant aesthetic—a fusion of Taiwan’s contemporary vitality and feminine intensity. Through her choreography, Ho probes the body as a vessel of emotion, revealing the most delicate strata of the human spirit. Her signature works—“New Paradise of Silent Island”, “Renaissance of its Ashes”, and “The Lost Limbo”—merge ritual, technology, and local culture. Ho received Taiwan’s National Arts Award in 2016, and founded the Dance Now Asia Festival (DNA) in 2023, dedicated to fostering creative exchange and cultural dialogue among Asian choreographers and dancers. |

MeimageDance is acclaimed for its innovative blend of choreography, technology, and Asian cultural identity. The company launched the New Choreographer project in 2011, inviting overseas Taiwanese artists to “come home” and create. 같은 르네상스 예술가들이 묘사한 천국, 심판, 지옥의 영적 우주를 반영한다. 무용수들은 전례적 걸음으로 의식의 제단에 오르며, 접히는 몸을 통해 고통과 갈망을 드러낸다. 이는 천국과 지옥 사이의 경계 위를 부유하는
존재를 떠올리게 한다. 서구의 영적 지도 체계(spiritual cartography)와 대만의 의례적 수행이 교차하는 가운데, 작품은 서로 다른 세계가 맞닿는 영혼의 이동에 대한 교차문화적 비전을 펼쳐 보이며, 그
안에서 새로운 정신의 영역이 열린다.
“Renaissance of its Ashes” situates the contemporary body between two worldviews. One draws from Taiwanese Taoist rituals and yin and yang, while the other reflects the spiritual cosmos of Heaven, Judgment, and Hell depicted by Renaissance artists such as Hieronymus Bosch. Dancers ascend the ritual altar with liturgical steps, their folding bodies recounting suffering and longing—hovering between paradise and damnation. As Western spiritual cartography intersects with Taiwanese ritual practice, the work unveils a cross-cultural vision of the soul’s migration, where worlds overlap and new territories of spirit unfold. |
