Stephanie Thomasen Stephanie Thomasen(1986년생)은 덴마크에서 태어나고 자랐다. 그는 수상 경력을 지닌 무용가이자 안무가이다. 스테파니 토마슨은 2009년 뉴욕의 The Ailey School을 졸업했으며, 2010년부터 Uppercut Dance Theater와 함께 활동하고 있다. Stephanie Thomasen (b. 1986) was born and raised in Denmark. She is an award-winning dancer and choreographer. Stephanie graduated from The Ailey School in New York in 2009, and has been working with Uppercut Dance Theater since 2010. |

Uppercut Dance Theater var founded in 1982 and constitutes as one of the longest running dance companies in Denmark. The company pioneered in bringing contemporary dance on tour and into alternative institutions such as museums and schools. From the start 2000's and onwards, Uppercut Dance Theater started working with and engaging street- and break dancers in their productions. One of whom was Mark Philip, an avid capoeira and break dance practitioner, who has been with the company for 20 years and constitutes the third generation of artistic directors alongside choreographer Stephanie Thomasen. |

우리는 지금 인생의 어느 자리에 앉아 있는가? 덴마크 현대무용의 역동성을 상징하는 어퍼컷 댄스 시어터의 대표작 <벤치(BENCHED)>는 여러 개의 긴 벤치를 중심으로 펼쳐지는 다섯 남자의 치열한 삶의 연대기이다. 안무가 스테파니 토마센은 ‘벤치’라는 상징적인 오브제를 통해 현대인이 마주하는 소외와 권력, 그리고 연대의 메시지를 던진다. 무대 위 벤치는 무용수들의 신체와 유기적으로 결합하며 안식처에서 거대한 벽으로 끊임없이 변모한다. 현대무용, 브레이킹, 캡포에라를 넘나드는 폭발적인 테크닉은 중력을 거스르는 시각적 경이로움을 선사하며 관객을 압도한다. “마치 자석처럼 관객을 빨아들이는 근육의 떨림과 압도적 몰입감.” – The Stage “Where in life are you sitting right now?” BENCHED is a brutally honest bodily tale about life’s big and small questions. It explores the act of settling down, daring to sit in opposition, and the struggle of being “benched.” Through several benches that transform from a sanctuary into a giant wall, five dancers perform a physical chronicle of power, exclusion, and solidarity. Choreographer Stephanie Thomasen fuses contemporary dance with breaking and capoeira, creating an explosive, gravity-defying performance that pushes the limits of the human body. |
